The new Basic Therapeutic Endoscopy Course (BTEC) is an updated course combined with a research study to improve training in therapeutic endoscopy.
Techniques that will be taught are:
- Control of upper GI haemorrhage
- Polypectomy and EMR
- Oesophageal dilatation
- PEG insertion
The course will involve:
- Lectures from experts on technique and indications
- Computer simulator sessions
- Knowledge-based appraisal of therapy
- Use of new computer software to improve polyp detection
- Individual practice sessions on animal and mechanical models
- Hands on practical teaching sessions with expert instructors
- Observation of live therapeutic endoscopy
The course has been specifically designed to maximise the educational value for each applicant and so includes modules to improve knowledge, skills and attitudes. There will be continual assessment during the course of the effectiveness of the teaching strategies.
Places will be limited to applicants who have not already attended a therapeutic endoscopy course and who are not currently independent at performing the procedures. To maximise value from the course, we expect all applicants to continue to have experience in therapeutic endoscopy afterwards.
