INTRODUCTION
The use of capsule endoscopy for gastro-intestinal imaging is rapidly expanding, and in the UK the service is starting to devolve from tertiary centres to local hospitals. As a result there is an increasing need for physicians who are setting up a service to access good quality training material.
In contrast to other types of endoscopy, capsule endoscopy requires no technical skill or 'hands-on' training. Web-based learning and accreditation is likely to evolve with the aim of improving and assessing the lesion recognition skills that are required for capsule endsocopy.
St. Mark's Hospital has run a capsule endoscopy service since 2002, and is currently the busiest unit in the country. We have selected typical examples of normal anatomy and pathology using our library of over 750 capsule studies and the Given Imaging Rapid 5 Atlas, to demonstrate key learning points.
HOW TO COMPLETE THE TRAINING AND TESTS

TEST 1
The first test is an initial assessment exercise designed to establish your baseline level of lesion recognition at capsule endoscopy. This consists of 22 short video clips with multiple-choice answers on a wide range of possible findings. This section allows you to familiarise yourself with the video reviewing process and identify gaps in your knowledge and abilities which can be targeted in the next section.
Completion and review of test 1 allows you access to the Training Module.
TRAINING MODULE

The second part is a dedicated training package that runs through the range of normal and abnormal findings at capsule endoscopy.
This module incorporates an interactive library still images amd video clips, annoted with text. Navigation is by an intuitive menu based system, which divides the learning material into several sections: normal anatomy, anatomical variants, incidental findings and pathological findings. Each section is sub-divided into anatomical region: oesophagus, stomach, small bowel and colon (where appropriate).

Finally, there is a 'check your understanding' section which covers the key learning points.
On the main menu, the learning sections which have been completed will be shown. Once all sections have been completed, you will be able to continue to the final test.
The teaching tool is divided into the following sections:
PART ONE: Normal anatomy, anatomical variants and incidental findings
1. Oesophagus
2. Stomach
3. Duodenum
4. Jejunum
5. Ileum
6. Colon
PART TWO: Pathological findings
1. Oesophagus
2. Stomach
3. Small bowel
Coeliac disease
Vascular lesions (arterial / venous)
Crohn's disease
NSAID related enteropathy
Polyposis Syndromes
Tumours (benign / malignant)
Rarities
TEST 2
The third part is a re-assessment exercise of 22 additional video clips and multiple-choice answers for you to test yourself on. This will highlight any areas that need further review.
You will be able to stop the test or training at any time by logging off. The next time you log in to the software, the program will automatically return you to the section or question you were last reading.
Once you return the results to us (follow the instructions) you will be given a password to allow you full access of all the trainng pages and review sections.
