The Wolfson unit for endoscopy was established in 1996 and is designed to combine a stylish and caring environment with modern high technology facilities for out-patients and in-patients, whether NHS or Private.

There are a total of five procedure rooms, reception area, 10 bedded recovery bay and state of the art teaching facilities, plus a sixth room with 4 recovery spaces for private patients.

The endoscopy unit carries out in the region of 11,000 endoscopies per year:
  • 6,000 colonoscopies
  • 2,500 flexible sigmoidoscopies
  • 2,000 gastroscopies
  • 500 other procedures (pouchoscopy, enteroscopy, bronchoscopy)
  • 250 ERCP
The endoscopy unit currently offers:
  • Colonoscopy
  • Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
  • Double Balloon Enteroscopy (Dr Chris Fraser)
  • Endoscopic Submucosal Disection (ESD)* from October 2005
  • Enteroscopy
  • ERCP
  • Capsule Endoscopy
  • Minimally invasive endoscopic therapy
  • EMR, Polypectomy and stricture managment
  • Bronchoscopy
